We’re currently seeking an Assistant Director of Laundry Services to lead our Housekeeping team at 1 HOTEL HANALEI BAY, a natural people person with an analytical mind, who can do everything from streamline a bumpy process to stock a supply cart.

 

The Laundry Manager is a natural at identifying challenges, makes reasonable and insightful assumptions, and motivates everyone on the team by showing them the rewards of providing outstanding service.

POSITION OVERVIEW

 

Provides leadership, direction, and motivation to the team members in the Laundry Department, ensuring the successful execution of daily laundry operations and daily productivity for the team.

 

PRINCIPLE DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

 

· Developing and putting into operation the current system and technical advancement in the field of laundry operations.

· Understanding of PH levels and chemicals involved formulating washing formula for stained loads.

· Ensuring the washing of linen and uniforms as per standard.

· Respond to emergency situations using information contained in MSD sheets.

· Identify linen abuse and damage.

· Maintenance and upkeep of all laundry equipment.

· Coordinating with the Engineering Department about their routine maintenance of the equipment

· Execute Monthly Linen, Terry, Bathrobes and Uniform Inventory

· Preparing Annual Laundry Budget

· Develop new methods for increasing laundry efficiency.

· Coordinate with the maintenance team for outstanding repairs of machinery.

· Overall controlling and supervision of the Department.

· Training and coordination with supporting Departments.

· Record and monitor laundry costs.

· Make reports and recommendations when required.

· Oversee the laundry equipment preventive maintenance program.

· Approve distribution of linen to guestrooms, Food & Beverage department areas, spa and culinary

· Direct all Laundry staff.

· Approve the Laundry team member schedule.

· Organizing training for the staff.

· Hire and train new laundry staff.

· Plan and provide recommendations for uniform replacement.

· Ensure the uniform room inspects all uniforms daily for replacement and damage.

· Conduct weekly departmental meetings with the team.

· Ensure laundry status is communicated to Housekeeping and Hotel Leadership in a timely and efficient manner.

· Communicate the impact of the department’s operations on the property’s operational and financial goals and objectives and achieve or exceed budgeted goals.

· Inventory stock to ensure adequate supplies and ensure all team members have proper supplies, equipment, and uniforms.

· Communicate areas that need attention to staff and follow-up to ensure understanding.

· Supervise daily laundry shift operations and ensure compliance with all Laundry & Housekeeping Department policies, standards, and procedures.

· Ensure regular, ongoing communication occurs (e.g. daily rallies, divisional/departmental meetings, attendance at regular and ad hoc hotel meetings). Emphasize guest satisfaction during all departmental meetings and focus on continuous improvement.

· Schedule team members to business demands and track team member time and attendance.

· Manage staffing levels to ensure that operational needs and financial objectives are met.

· Observe team member service behaviors and provide ongoing feedback.

· Ensure team member recognition is taking place on all shifts and participate in all team member recognition programs. Celebrate successes and publicly recognize the contributions of team members.

· Solicit team member feedback, utilize an “open door” policy and review employee engagement results to identify and address team member problems or concerns.

· Stay informed of market trends and introduce new products and services to drive department success, increase revenue and ensure a competitive position in the market.

· Ensure proper controls are in place and polices are established and followed by all team members and are administered fairly and consistently, disciplinary procedures and documentation are completed according to standard.

· Participate in the development and implementation of corrective action plans to improve operational success and strive to improve service performance.

· Respond to and handle internal and guest problems and complaints.

· Identify opportunities to optimize performance and create value by challenging existing processes, encouraging innovation, and driving necessary change.

· Establish and maintain open, collaborative internal and external relationships and ensure direct reports do the same.

· Provide inspirational leadership to enliven the 1 Hotels Vision, Mission, and Compass; deliver on Our Promise, provide Good-Natured Service and uphold our Brand Pillars.

· Recruit and select talented team members who will enhance the 1 Hotels culture and demonstrate functional expertise; ensuring staffing levels are appropriate to meet business demands.

· Train department team members: plan, assign and direct work; reward and discipline team members; address complaints and resolve problems. Provide guidance and direction to subordinates through coaching, counseling, mentoring, and reviewing performance. Empower team members to deliver the ultimate guest experience.

· Utilize interpersonal and communication skills to lead, influence and inspire others; advocate sound business decisions; demonstrate honesty and integrity; lead by example.

· Build and maintain an organizational culture that maximizes guest and employee engagement and attracts top talent.

Qualifications

About you...

QUALIFICATIONS & SKILLS REQUIRED:

 

· A high school degree or GED; 2 years of experience in a comparable position and/or an equivalent combination of education and experience.

· Detailed knowledge of laundry operations; demonstrated strong leadership skills; and proven achievements in optimizing guest and team member engagement and financial performance.

· Experience successfully leading in a fast-paced environment and prioritizing demands.

· Strong interpersonal, team member relations and leadership abilities.

· Well versed in Laundry financial aspects including cost per pound.

· Technically savvy and familiar with laundry operating/budgeting systems and spreadsheets.

· Ability to identify and solve problems.

· Professional & appropriate business appearance and demeanor aligned with the 1 Hotel brand and culture.

· Excellent verbal and written communication skills.

· Flexibility to meet the demands of a 24-hour operation.

 

PREFERRED:

 

· Prior experience in a quality luxury hotel or restaurant brand; specifically in Laundry.

· Fluency in a second language other than English.
