POSITION OVERVIEW

 

1 Hotel Hanalei Bay is committed to being a leader of conscious tourism by creating enriching educational and conservation focused opportunities for guests and team members to engage. Our Manager of Hawaiian Culture will play a key role in setting the resort’s cultural compass, leading meaningful and relevant hands-on activities, guide us in Native Hawaiian protocol, serve as a connector to the community and an ambassador to our destination.

 

PRINCIPLE DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Share story and essence of aloha across the resort with guests and team members of 1 Hotel Hanalei Bay.
  • Develop, lead and manage weekly programming highlighting interactive cultural activities designed to engage and educate resort guests including but not limited to programming sessions (hula, lei making, native plant botanical tours, ‘ōlelo, kapa printing, moʻolelo) seasonal celebrations (Prince Kuhio Day, May Day, Makahiki).
  • Manage recruitment of cultural focused talent search and participating Team Members leading cultural programming.
  • Guides the team on correct and appropriate use of Hawaiian Language, artwork, etc. throughout the Resort.
  • Development of resort moʻolelo for guest, team, marketing, social
  • Supports the Director of Marketing, PR, and Programs in recruiting practioners for cultural programs and promoting current programs.
  • Lead cultural events blessing, VIP welcomes, sites, cultural integrations in meetings for guests and team members
  • Creates and plans interactive cultural displays
  • Works alongside the Daylife Manager in creating activity schedule and communicating program information to guests when they register for programs.
  • Communicates and works closely with culture practioners in developing opportunities for resort that align with guiding pillars
  • Represent the resort as cultural ambassador to the community at cultural and industry events
  • Encourage team members to participate in relevant community cultural gatherings that promote Hawaiian cultural education and v
  • Work with the Daylife Manager and Program Management team to develop partnerships with local groups that align with 1 Hotels’
  • Support Director of Marketing, Director of Spa and Daylife Manager to develop and implement an annual budget and activity plan for the Resort cultural programs and submits ideas for capital improvements to enhance the hotel through culture.
  • Support the Spa and Wellness Department in integrating Hawaiian Culture practices and relevant protocol in wellbeing experiences and activites.
  • Support People Ops Department in integrating Hawaiian values in trainings and practices tied to Heart of House and Team Member experiences.
  • Support the Food and Beverage Department with concept development and planning / executing an authentic cultural entertainment at 1 Hotel Hanalei Bay.
  • Support cultural integration across the resort experience including but not limited to Seedlings,

Qualifications

About you...

  • REQUIRED:

    • A post-secondary diploma or degree in a field of study related to this profession; 4 years of experience in a comparable position and/or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
    • Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
    • Strong attention to detail.
    • Flexibility to meet the demands of a 24-hour operation.

    PREFERRED:

    • Prior experience leading cultural programming in the visitor industry of Hawaii.
    • Fluency - English
