The Hawaiian Cultural Ambassador at 1 HOTEL HANALEI BAY is responsible for preserving, promoting, and sharing the rich cultural heritage of Hawaiʻi through various educational and experiential activities. This role involves engaging with guests, team members, and community groups to impart knowledge about Hawaiian traditions, history, arts, and practices. The ambassador will create and execute cultural programs, workshops, demonstrations, and events aimed at fostering a deeper understanding and appreciation of Hawaiian culture.

This position plays a vital role in enhancing the guest experience and fostering cultural understanding within the resort.

This position involves creating immersive and educational cultural activities for guests while also supporting and training our team members. The ambassador will collaborate with hotel management to integrate Hawaiian cultural elements into the guest experience, ultimately contributing to the promotion of Hawaiian heritage as a whole.

Principle Duties and Responsibilities

• Develop and implement engaging cultural activities and experiences for hotel guests.
• Train and support team members in delivering cultural programming and interacting with guests in a sensitive and respectful manner, ensuring that all team members embody the spirit of aloha and adhere to appropriate protocols.
• Collaborate with the resort’s Daylife team to organize cultural events, themed evenings, and special celebrations, incorporating Hawaiian traditions, music, and cuisine to create memorable guest experiences.
• Serve as a cultural concierge for guests, providing information, recommendations, and guidance on cultural activities, attractions, and experiences both within the resort and in the surrounding community.
• Offer guided tours and cultural interpretation of hotel grounds, highlighting significant cultural landmarks, artifacts, and practices, and sharing stories and legends relevant to Hawaiian culture.
• Establish partnerships with local cultural practitioners, artists, and organizations to source authentic cultural experiences and products for guests, supporting the local community and promoting sustainable tourism practices.
• Solicit feedback from guests regarding cultural activities and experiences, and utilize this input to continuously improve and refine offerings to better meet guest expectations and preferences.
• Conduct regular training sessions for team members to enhance cultural sensitivity, awareness, and understanding, fostering an inclusive and respectful environment for both guests and team members.

About you...

• Proficiency in Hawaiian language.
• In-depth knowledge and understanding of Hawaiian culture, traditions, and customs, with a passion for sharing these with others.
• Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to engage and connect with guests from diverse backgrounds.
• Strong organizational and event planning skills, with attention to detail and the ability to multitask effectively.
• Cultural sensitivity and respect for Hawaiian protocols and traditions.
• Collaborative mindset, with the ability to work closely with resort management, team members, and external partners.

Preferred...

• Fluency in Hawaiian language.
• Bachelor’s degree in Hawaiian language, Hawaiian studies, hospitality management, or a related field.
• Previous experience in hospitality and/or education.
